This morning as I drove to work, the Morning Talk Program on my radio was taking calls from people this morning trying to answer the question about the moral decline evidenced in out daily headlines and news. Not one person was close! A lot of what was offered were mere symptoms and excuses.
The real reason? Simply put, it is the moral standards of the individual. As a Nation, As a Community, As a Family, As an Individual: we have all fallen for the lie that each person should establish his own morality based loosely on individual beliefs (or lack thereof!), interpretations or preferences. It is summed up neatly in the Billboards I'm sure you've seen, with the message form GOD -"What part of 'Thou Shall Not'...do you NOT understand?"
Our society, one individual at a time, has bought into the widely pronounced theory that there are no absolutes! Of course! this is rediculous! When someone is killed - it means they are dead!-Absolutely!!
When the Individuals in our society realize that - without a moral compass, there are no morals! ---Only then - will we see a reversal in our different media reactions. It will happen, the way it started...One Individual at a time. I'm not real optomistic. - And yet- that's exactly the route our presidential election took. One principled individual, at a time!
Congratulations! God, on your Election of one of your own. Benjamin Franklin said it well:
'Gentlemen! If not a sparrow can fall to the ground without the consent of the Almighty; It is not likely that a Nation can rise, without it!'
(loosely paraphrased). | | |
| Well, a bit less upbeat, today. Our buyers want a new roof and I
don't want to give it to them. Roofs are quite expensive
and no-one should buy one for no good reason. Do what
everybody else does...wait for 'storm damage' and let the insurance
cover buy it! Lousy attitude for an Insurance Agent, I
know...but...I do know my way around the block and we pay
premiums for about 80,000 more than our listing price just to get
replacement cost (rather than the depreciated value). That's kust
the way it's done.!
Yet I'm afraid they are so inexperienced (obviously their first house)
that they don't know what it means to own a home. They should
probably look at new construction if the are really not prepared to
assume the cost of maintenance. Then they can budget for repairs
for 15 years; and there will be no surprises. You need to be
willing to 'take the leap' if you want to enjoy the asthetics of an old
house (home).
I told Scott that the house is priced with the repairs in mind. Who else would sell this house; for this price?
Oh!!Bother!!! It's been the longest of days. My third in a
row-headache day and my fourth on a singular project of which the
parameters were not defined. I had no idea where the information
was and it took a bit of creative problem solving to get as far as I
did. I missed my class tonight and I had already used up all my
'cut's'...so no credit for all I've done, so far. No point in
even finishing. I wanted to have the course behind me even though
I was not planning to sit for the exam. Not only am I really
distracted and pressed for time; I really couldn't ask COG to pay for
the exam, when I'm not even going to be here... Well, I guess I might
be here longer than I thought if these people don't back down.
At least I may be able to schedule an interview when I'm down there in
a couple of weeks. I'm playing 'phone tag' with the person who'll
decide to schedule me. Hope we can connect, tomorrow.
Oh, and Kate...no doll; we're not dumping the antique bed. That
look always did go well with the antique dresser. We've already
talked about getting a new mattress for it. And maybe the 'cutsie
daybed/trundle bed' in "Dad's Office" (b's room...).
I'm exhausted...time to zone-out.

| The Saturday inspections went well. We don't yet have the results, but we do know the only
termites are in the firewood pile. We felt sure that there werent
any because we knew they were discovered when it was put in the market
9 or 10 years ago. They were treated, then; so we were pretty
sure they weren't back. We'll have to treat the wood pile, but
that's not bad.
We should have the inspection and Raydon reports in a few days so I'm sure Scott will call when they are received.
We'll be traveling to Corpus on 12/4 for a week of house hunting and
job searching. I have a couple of leads, thanks to Tom
Pine. He's the greatest.!!! He wrote a
couple of emails this weekend and got an inquiry, today. I'll
send the resume tonight and make a call to introduce myself,
tomorrow.
Tonight I'll get that resume posted and make a flyer to sell Brent's Camaro. Sniff, sniff.

| Poor ! Ebbie
!! She had to stay outside on the porch; All Day Long !!! I
felt so-o-o bad. This morning the Raydon Inspector came.
There was a collection cylinder left on the first floor and another in
the basement. The windows (and doors)are to remain closed,
completely (except entry & exit), 'till the Saturday pick-up.
We were cautioned not to open any windows; for any reason. When
open windows can create an up-draft effect and actually pull the gasses
upward and give a false positve reading. It actually creates a
higher, and possibly dangerous, reading (requiring treatment).
This afternoon was the oil tank inspection. That's the one about
which we were most uneasy. They apparently determine the tank
position starting at the access point (where the oil enters), and
tapping through the ground until they locate the tank. Once the
outline is determined, test positions are identified and soil samples
are extracted through the hollow tube/ bore hole method. The soil
is then tested for contamination. The maximum contamination level
is about 25% (a guess, offered by our oil supplier). Scott-The-Realtor,
called after 4:00pm and left word that the reading is fine...We Passed
!!!!! We have yet to determine how long that tank has been
there. Probably, --since God Made Dirt! Now, I call that a stamp of approval, from God !!
Saturday, at 8:00am, the 'Home Inspection' takes place. Poor
Tom...Out of town, all week, and if everything is on time- his plane
lands about 9:pm. By the time he gets his bags, gets the shuttle
back to the parking lot, and drives home, it will be 11-12pm/am.
We'll probably skip out on church Sunday; so he can rest up a
bit. He leaves again on Monday AM; for another all week trip.
He is spending the next few weeks traveling around the US for
face-to-face contact with his sales people and visiting the
distributors, with them. Basically, the 'meet-n-greet' and
'pulse-check'. He will be implementing some changes in the next
few months and this is a necessary part their implementation.
Tonight when I got home, Ebbie was not feeling well and whining.
You can probably guess why, if you know her...Another ear infection
and, yes, the arthritis makes her achey. Now we have more
antibiotics and ear salve! At least we'll be home for the next 'Invasion of the Inspectors' and she will only be out as long as necessary. She won't have to wait on the porch for me to come home.
I must be more supersticious than I think I am; because I keep thinking
about loosing Dusty when we were moving up here. She was in a lot
of pain today; and as I think of it, she was a bit 'whiney' last night,
too. I did her ears and gave her the anti-b's and she's slept
since we got home. Hasn't eaten' but I'm sure she'll be ok, by
tomorrow.
I was on the phone for a bit this morning (at work), with a Mortgage
provider. They have already pre-approved us for a Mortgage on
whatever we purchase; now I just need to get down there and buy
something. Tom mentioned the first weekend in Dec; but, I might
need to start a bit earlier. We have a tentative closing of
1/7/05; so we will need at least 6 weeks, after we write the
contract. The house we really liked, is sold now; so we need to
see a few more.
Well; lots to do, yet, tonight...
